Cuba Street and Te Aro offer a wider choice of independent restaurants and bars further south. Wellington Airport is approximately eight kilometres away, with airport buses, taxis and shuttle services connecting it with the central city.

• Drivers should use the vehicle entrance at 14 Gilmer Terrace rather than the pedestrian entrance on Lambton Quay.
• Airport buses provide a practical connection between Wellington Airport and the central city throughout the week.
• Walk downhill for the waterfront and railway station, but expect a steeper return towards Gilmer Terrace and The Terrace.
• Carry a windproof or waterproof outer layer, as Wellington’s harbour weather can change quickly in any season.
• Lambton Quay is quiet outside office and shopping hours; Cuba Street and Courtenay Place provide more evening dining choices.

December to February generally brings Wellington’s warmest weather for waterfront walks, outdoor dining and visits to Oriental Bay, although summer events can increase demand. March and April often provide mild conditions with fewer holiday crowds. Spring can be bright but windy and changeable. Winter is cooler and wetter, yet the central location remains convenient for museums, galleries, shopping and restaurants. A light waterproof layer is useful throughout the year.
